New version and a new name for Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Microsoft Dynamics NAV new version

The biggest Microsoft partner event to take place in Europe – the Microsoft Directions EMEA 2017 – gave answers to a lot of concerns regarding the future of one of Microsoft’s leading business software solutions – Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the major question being:

In what direction will the development of Microsoft Dynamics NAV continue?

To sum up: Microsoft will continue to develop Microsoft Dynamics NAV as part of the Dynamics 365 family.

Dynamics NAV has been a major part of Microsoft’s business management line of software for over 14 years and is the leading ERP solution for SMB companies worldwide with over 120 000 business clients. Apparently Microsoft appreciates NAV’s potential and will continue to invest in its development and upgrade to meet the constantly evolving needs of the modern business.

NAV is turning into MICROSOFT DYNAMICS 365 ‘TENERIFE’

When Microsoft announced Dynamics 365 – its new ecosystem of interconnected business solutions – back in 2016, everyone expected that NAV will soon take its rightful place in it. This is finally about to happen in 2018.

However, the ERP software needs to undergo several steps in its development and by the end of 2018 we will witness a new chapter in its life-cycle – NAV will transform entirely into MICROSOFT DYNAMICS 365 ‘TENERIFE’

Microsoft Dynamics NAV roadmap

Actually, TENERIFE is still a code name for the future ERP product, which will offer the Dynamics NAV functionalities both on-prem and in the cloud.

Rome wasn’t built in a day …

To complete its journey towards the Dynamics 365 ecosystem, NAV will undergo several updates starting with a new version of the solution which will be available very soon.

Step 1: Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 will premiere on 1st of December 2017.

The new NAV 2018 comes packed with many promising new functionalities which will facilitate and improve user experience with the system and expand the capabilities of building additional applications. Experts predict an even stronger AI presence and integration of cognitive functionalities such as the ability to recognize items from photos and assign them to the appropriate category in the product catalogue, age and gender recognition of employees from photos and many other.

Step 2: Microsoft Dynamics 365 “Tenerife” (cloud)

While finalizing the on-premise version of NAV 2018, Microsoft’s team is working hard on a fully-functional cloud version of the solutions which will be available in the spring of 2018. This will be the debut of Microsoft Dynamics 365 “Tenerife” on cloud.

Step 3: Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 R2

The next stage in the NAV transformation is the new cumulative update NAV 2018 R2 set to unify the functionalities of Tenerife and NAV 2018 and thus turn them into two identical versions of the ERP solution – on-prem and in the cloud. NAV 2018 R2 will also be available spring 2018.

Step 4: Transformation completed

By the end of 2018 Microsoft Dynamics NAV will have completely merged with Microsoft Dynamics ‘Tenerife’ giving the birth of a finished ERP solution capable of both classical and cloud implementation. Then we will finally say good-bye to the name Dynamics NAV and welcome the new ERP solution which name is yet to be reviled.
